Here are a few of the Eiffel Tower facts and history
- 1,652 steps from the 2nd level to the very top level
- 300 iron workers during 1887 and 1889
- 2.5 million rivets (incredible!)
- 15,000 pieces of iron were used
- 40 tons of paint were needed
- in 1889 the total height was 300.51 meters / 985 feet, 11″
- with television mast, the total height is 320.755 meters / 1052 feet, 4″
- the base area is 10,281.96 Sq. meters [an amazing 2.54 acres!]
- the foundation weight is 277,602 kg [306 tons]
- Iron structure weight equals 7.34 million kg [8092.2 tons]
- the weight of the elevator/lift systems is 946,000 kg [1042.8 tons]
- the overall tower weight equals : 8.56 million kg [9441 tons]
- the pressure on the foundation is 4.1 to 4.5 kg/square cm
- you can walk the1,665 steps to the summit (not 1,792 steps which represented the year of the First French Republic as popularly believed)
- an incredibly low high-wind sway of only 12 cm
- temperature only affects the height variation of 15 cm or less
