Hi Jasbir,

If you’re looking for a shop which will deliver to your home, there’s a fantastic place online called Aubijoux. The owner is very helpful and they ship their goods all over Europe. You can see all their products on their website. Update 2023 – the wonderful owner of Aubijou La Soie sold his business several years ago, and the new owners moved the store from Chambon Sur Lignon to Belgium. I have been in touch with their Team and they were so lovely and very helpful. Find out more on their website:

I don’t know if other shops deliver, but you can certainly ask them (and have your fingers crossed for good luck!).

Sennelier Art store in Paris

I took this photo of one of my Silk Painting In Paris students, who was overwhelmed at all the beautiful colours of silk dyes available. This very helpful piece of silk showed all of the colours, and it was so exciting and inspiring!

After this photo, we took our purchases back to my Paris Studio and painted to our heart’s delight for many hours. Ahhhhh what a marvellous day!

2023 UPDATE – I have just looked at the Sennelier website and I did not find any silk dyes ;-( They do have paintbrushes which I used to buy for silk painting, so if you click the link above to the website, you’ll be taken straight to the paintbrushes.

Where to Buy Silk Fabric in Paris

I love, love, love the fabric district at the foot of the Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre!

Store: Marché Saint Pierre

This amazing store is surrounds by a lot of fabric stores, you’ll need at least a day to browse through them, and luckily there is a little cafe to rest your weary feet and grab a bite for lunch :-)

Silk Dye and Silk Painting Products

Many art supply stores sell products for painting on silk, simply ask for “les produits pour la peinture sur soie” (“products for painting on silk”).

Marabu is an excellent brand available in France, and Dupont is probably the most famous French silk dye.

Wooden frames are available in all art supply stores across France, they press together at each corner very easily – you can see a sample in the photo above.

There are some fantastic French books on silk painting, quite a few written by Lydie Ottelart.
