Bonjour mon ami!

Hello my friend!

How are you on this gorgeous day?! Have you been dreaming of Paris, and all things French? Me too!

Here I am in Sydney (where I live) and it’s winter (our seasons are opposite to Europe and USA), and I think about Paris all the time … I watch videos about Paris, I visit French boulangeries (bakeries) and patisseries (pastry shops) nearby, but of course it’s not quite the same as BEING in Paris :-)

Quick Videos of Paris

This month is the heart of summer in our favourite city, and the French do their best to bring the beach to the city – they call it PARISPLAGES (“plage” means “beach”).

I’ve read online that this year the weather wasn’t as fabulous as it normally is in Paris for this time of year, but that didn’t stop the Parisians from bringing tons of sand and putting it along the banks of the River Seine!

There was a floating swimming pool, deckchairs, lots of sunglasses and when the sun shone, the party atmosphere was wild! It looked beautiful – check out this video to see what I mean:

I also found a video what shows that there were some torrential rain storms too this month in Paris – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the waterfall on these stairs in Montmartre – gosh, a bit tricky trying to navigate stairs and streets in this kind of weather in Paris!

After that downpour, you need to see something gorgeous, funny and French :-)

I found a video about a fabulous movie by Woody Allen – “Midnight in Paris” – it hasn’t arrived in Australia yet, but I’ll be seeing it as soon as it does! Have you seen it yet?

Unfortunately the Youtube video has been deleted

Renting a Bike in Paris – The Velib!

You can now rent the Velibs online – great news! In the past some credit card holders have had problems with non-chip credit cards, so this is a very welcome change.

If you’re going to be in Paris and would like to cycle around this gorgeous city and explore at a slower pace, you will be able to order your Velib here – http://en.velib.paris.fr/

Where to grab a great sandwich in Paris

If you’re in the 4th arrondissement, one of my friends recommends that you check out the Petit Fer à Cheval in the Marais, located at 30 rue Vieille du Temple, 75004.

Grab a baguette sandwich (the ham and cheese baguette, or ask for “un sandwich mixte”).

You can buy great baguette sandwiches in just about every bar in town, some of course will be better than others, but at such reasonable prices it’s hard to get a better deal.

Expect to pay around €3.50 for delicious ham and cheese, better than anything you can buy in the supermarket/supermarché!

When I lived and worked in Paris, I used to have the ham and cheese baguette sandwich every day – oh it tasted soooo much better than anything I could make at home!

Check out these tasty morsels:
